Minnesota
Minnesota was established in 1858 and is known as the land of 10,000 lakes. While the state is home to over 10,000 lakes and borders, Lake Superior, Minnesota, is more than lakes. It is also home to many natural areas. This includes the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area, Voyageurs National Park, and Itasca State Park, where the Mississippi River starts. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are home to the state professional sports teams. Hockey is one of the most popular sports, as the state even has a Hockey Day.
North Shore
The North Shore of Minnesota starts in Duluth and runs all the way to the Canadian border. The shoreline features cliffs, beaches, and estuaries. The North Shore was first utilized during the fur trade and then was used for shipping practices. As you explore the North Shore, you will find many shipwrecks, including the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in Lake Superior. No matter the season, there is something to see. Explore the black sand beach in the summer, see the changing leaves in the fall, and ski the slopes of the Lutsen Mountains in the winter.
